Amendments to KPME Bill, 2017

Attached is the scanned copy of the ‘The Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (amendment) Bill, 2017’ which was tabled on June 13 th, 2017  in the Karnataka assembly. The amendment was to make the  Act ‘citizen—centric’ and preventing the exploitation of patients in private hospitals. After an intense debate in the floor of the assembly, the bill has been referred to a Joint Select committee of 17 members of the Karnataka Legislature. While the bill is a step forward towards bringing in accountability to the private medical sector, several doctors and hospitals have opposed the bill, a lot of which is due to misrepresentation and misinformation . We have therefore attached the bill here, so that people can see for themselves what is in the amendment. Please make sure you read the amendment with the original act, so that the amendments are clear. The original act is available here
